Seven year-old Bailey* fled a violent home last Christmas. She arrived at a refuge with just the clothes on her back.
To get out safely, they often can’t risk taking anything with them. No packed bag of clean clothes. No toy for comfort. They’ll often arrive at a refuge or foster home afraid and anxious. Desperate for care and a reason to smile.
Last Christmas, while other children were tearing open presents, Bailey's life was being torn apart.

What's inside a Buddy Bag?
A Buddy Bag is a 'mini care package' designed to help a child through their first frightening days in emergency accommodation after escaping a violent home.
Each Buddy Bag is packed with essentials including new underwear, socks, pyjamas and toiletries. As well as extra comforts like a cuddly teddy bear, a toy and a storybook.
Everything inside is designed to help them feel safe and cared for, on the most frightening day of their life.
As you read this, please take a moment to put yourself in the shoes of a child fleeing violence.
That's exactly what happened for seven-year-old Bailey last Christmas. And every hour this festive season, another child like her will face that terrifying moment.
Every one of those children will need a Buddy Bag.
On Thursday 18 December 9.30AM AEDT to to Friday 19 December 2025 9.30AM AEDT, donations will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $500, until $10,000 is raised.
Funds raised are pooled together to help fund programs that support children dealing with violence and trauma.
